The board has the size of a standard fixed voltage regulator in a TO220 package.

Due to the 3-pin connector, the electrical contact and mechanical grip in use on the breadboard is much better and more reliable than it is at the standard voltage regulators with ordinary lead wires.

A low-drop regulator LT3060 from linear Technologies is used, which comes a dropout voltage of max. 510 mV. It is characterized by low noise and low quiescent current.

Unlike most other controls the LT3060 is very robust. Any polarity with voltages up to 50 V can not destroy the IC. The charging current for polarity is very low. The board has additional overvoltage protection diodes on all 3 pins. They act conductively at about 45 V and prevent a short-term exceeding of the 50 V limit. The diodes are arranged such that even with incorrect polarity, no current flows as long as the voltage remains under 45 V.

The components required for operation, for example capacitors at the input and output are already in place on the board. They are also rated for voltages up to 50V.
